Sacred Stone Bodywork Therapy integrates the medicinal sciences of Ayurveda and stone bodywork.Using the concepts and principles of Ayurveda, heated and cooled stones and a variety of warm, natural oils, this Sacred Stone treatment is effective and successful in pacifying the vata dosha.
Sacred Stone Bodywork Therapy’s objective is to calm the excess ‘wind’ of the vata dosha. For example, while experiencing too much movement in your stressful life such as rushing to get out of the house to get to work or the kids to school. Then dealing with cumbersome nature of your job; meeting deadlines to satisfy clients; on the computer and the phone simultaneously while eating your lunch then to rush home to take care of family matters, etc. These daily will activities will certainly take its toll on your body, mind and soul.
The warm oils and hot stones are used in a pattern which is conducive to eliminate excess energy from the terminal clearance or terminal ends of your body so as to soothe and calm this excess vata or wind. The magnetic element of the heated stones unbinds muscles fibers for a deep release of tension and the warm oils assists in healing energy to flow in and negative energy to flow out. This treatment increases circulation and lymphatic drainage eliminating toxins, sedates the central nervous system and boosts organ function.Warm oils, among other things, help with inflammation and joint pain, strengthens the immune and nervous system and nourishes the body.
I also offers Shirodhara.Shiro means head and dhara means flow.Warm oil is poured on the forehead in a steady flow and relieves negative stress, soothes nerve and chemical disorders in the brain and opens the “third eye”.It lasts approximately 1-2 minutes.
Nasya is an oil that is applied into the nostril.Five drops which correspond to the five elements.Nasya can aid in sinus relief, ear, migraine headaches and assists in balancing mental instability.
In Sanskrit terms, Shila Abyhanga, means stone massage.Stones, which I have chosen or which were given to me from the New England coastline, are metamorphic and may date back three hundred million years. They contain mineral composites of granite and magnetite which has a higher magnetic field enclosed in their octahedral atomic structure. They are a microcosm of energy and life.Their magnetic fields help balance electrical unevenness within the human microcosm.
Ayurveda is a holistic healing system of medicine. In the Sanskrit word Ayurveda Ayu means “life” and Veda means “knowing”.It is the “science of life”, and the people of India have practiced Ayurveda for over 5,000 years. It is the science of self healing, the science of digestion, the science of long life and the science of life’s knowledge.
There are five elements that live in the Ayurveda concept.Ether, Air, Fire, Water and Earth. As in the macrocosm, these elements also live in the human microcosm.
They manifest in man as three principles or humors known as dosha. There are vata dosha, pitta dosha and kapha dosha. Vata has Air and Ether and is a Sanskirt word meaning “what blows”.Pitta has Fire and Water and means “what cooks”.Kapha has Earth and Water and means “what sticks”.We all have the three doshas within our constitution. However, a person’s constitution is determined at birth (prakruti) and never changes with one or more doshas being predominant.
The tridosha are responsible for biological, physiological and psychological functions of the body, mind, soul of man and thus requires a dedication of life-long study to understanding, practice and become enlightened by the art and science Ayurveda has to offer.
When unbalanced, the vata dosha will unsettle the other dosha. Each dosha has its own attributes and lives in certain organs. Thus, when they are unbalanced, it manifests within the organs and body is not at ease.
Shila Abyhanga means oil massage.Just like the stones that I use, hot stones and warm oils have stood the test of time. The healing science of Ayurveda has been beneficial to people for more than 5,000 years.
I am offering you Sacred Stone Bodywork Therapy so you may experience a gentle and peaceful breeze for your body, mind and soul.
